Cadette Girl Scout Troop 4715 Newsletter
June 26th, 2000

Quote from Mrs. Jennings:

"Your girls are great, Pat! You must be a very happy Girl Scout Leader."

And I am! First because of Rossie and Elizabeth's terrific work on their Leadership Hours with Callie's troop at Pine (less) Acres. The leader said it was the first time ever she had a chance to sit down on a campout! Next because of Stephanie's good work on the troop long range planning calendar, and today because of Afua, Jenny, and Diana's great work with Mrs. Jennings' troop at Scout Haven. Afua finished her Paper Works IPP service section, Jenny taught songs, everyone taught games and games and games, and Diana did three parts of the Space Explorer Try-It. I am smiling!!!!!J

Silver Award: Badge or Patch?

Pat is taking a poll of which girls might choose to work on which Silver Award Project if we do more than one. It's not a commitment, just a survey. Here's the list so far

Redesign the Junior/Cadette Zoo Patch

Katie

Redesign the Brownie Zoo Patch to include Daisies

Liz, Afua

Create a Council's Own Arabia Mountain Badge

Christina, Anne, Aisha, Jenny, Diana, Evelyn, Stephanie

Maybe do both

Aisha

Still to be polled

Chandler, ChrissyTina, Jamie, Nicole, Rossie

How interesting that so many girls are interested in the Arabia Mountain Badge idea! Should we do that instead of the Zoo Patch? Should we do the Zoo Patch and finish it (and our Silver Awards!) by December, and then do the Arabia Mountain Badge?

Swap Making Day

Afua, Anne, Christina, Diana, Liz, Evelyn, Katie, and Stephanie turned out over 300 swaps last week in two short days. The creations included an original Brown Thrasher design by Christina, Peanut People (including the entire Star Wars cast), and Kudzu Kritters (a.k.a. Hermie the Wormie). All of Christina, Liz, and Katie's Wider Op Swaps are done, and we made some to go to India with Sarah and Joey. Pat was inspired to clean up and organize all our crafts materials. We have so much stuff that we can probably do the St. Bede's Fall Festival without buying anything! Ah, fiscal responsibility is such a good thing!  In cleaning up, Pat found 40+ of our Indian feather swaps which we can send to the troop in Philadelphia that wants to swap with us.

Baubles, Bangles, and Bede's ("BB&B") – the St. Bede's Fall Festival

We decided at the Court of Awards that we do want to do the St. Bede's fall festival babysitting and games for kids as our fund raiser this fall. Since Girl Scouts may not raise money for other organizations, we can operate our part as a service and keep the money we earn. We were hoping that the date would be October 21, because our dates for Scout Haven are October 27-29. Well, the date that was picked by the committee was October 28, but they changed it to November 4th just so that we could participate. Cool!  Start thinking about what you'd like to do.

Wider Ops

Now that we're sending Katie, Christina, and Lizzie off into the wider world, it's time for everyone else to start thinking about next year. Remember that funding is available from the Council so that your parents don't have to pay the whole thing. We will need to work out a way to do our Wider Op Weekend (Nov. 4-6) around the St. Bede's BB&B.

The Incredible Résumé Prize

So far the incredible resume prize for handing Pat your Leadership Résumé all typed up has been claimed by six girls, and Pat can remember five of them. So aside from the mystery girl, Afua, Anne, Christina, Elizabeth, and Evelyn have their prizes. Hurry and finish up your résumé!  Please, mystery girl, tell me who you are.

More ideas for earning Leadership Hours

Afua is thinking about organizing girls who want to work on the Bancroft-Arenson patch project. Look at the website about the Bancroft-Arenson expedition in Antarctica at http://www.yourexpedition.com. You can decide if you're interested in the patch.

Diana is helping Pat get the swaps ready for mailing to Philadelphia. Other jobs include more work on Stephanie's planning calendar; getting the swaps to Sarah and Joey before their August trip to India, exploring the new Council office, and going to the new Badge and Sash; organizing some of the first steps (like talking to the Council Office) for our Silver Award Project.  Nicole, Afua, or Stephanie needs to organize their trip to the paper museum and wallpaper store.

Mrs. Jennings' troop wants more Cadettes when they go camping in October 13-15. J  Probably other troops will hear of our fame and want Cadettes, too.
