See our updated planning calendar for this year. We have a camping trip coming up soon!
Next meeting Friday, October 19 from 7-10 at the Callaways’Here we are again thinking about Girl Scout stuff. The girls I’ve talked with have worked on the evil paperwork and are slaying the monster. We can certainly do more of that at our meeting. We will need to plan our menu and transportation and get ready to go the very next weekend to Misty Mountain and the Farm House.
Camping Trip to Misty Mountain Friday, October 26 –Sunday, October 28
Pat has not done all those things that she ought to have done, but she’s doing it right now. We should have confirmation about activities by the time we meet.
Troop T-Shirt
Laura is working on a “Last Three” t-shirt design, and Pat is looking for black t-shirts. We plan to make our t-shirts at Misty Mountain with the iron-on materials that Crystal’s mom got for us. We will iron-on to a not-black fabric and then appliqué the fabric to the t-shirt. Note to selves: we need to bring an iron, an ironing board, not-black fabric (what color?), stitch-witchery, a sewing machine, and appropriate thread. Leaders who want to make a t-shirt please bring your own shirt (black or not), or bring it to Pat or Audrey before we leave and we’ll make it for you.
Destinations Rally
In a few weeks there will be a rally about Destinations, the trips that many of our girls (from Maria all the way back to Anne, Christina, Katie, and Elizabeth) have been able to take. Take a look at the list of all the Destinations trips for this year at http://www.studio2b.org/escape/destinations/event_list.asp?catid=0
Notice the horseback trails in the mountains trip based in Atlanta. The dog sledding and canoe trips are still there along with some interesting science and people categories. The international ones are unusual, too. Maybe you will have an end-of-Girl Scouts trip – just not with the troop.
If you would like to attend the rally, we will have to figure out how to register. Maria Emailed me the list of responsibilities she is carrying out for the Council scholarship she received to go to Switzerland, and one thing she has to do is talk to a troop. Perhaps us?
Very touching thank-you for Girl Scout cookies shipped to Iraq
Maybe we should plan on something like this. Our Sergeant friend is in Afghanistan now. We could also try to identify another soldier in Iraq. We could actually order extra cookies to ship if we want.
Troop 3580 and Three Leaves SU shipped six cases of cookies to three soldiers in Iraq.
The soldiers absolutely loved the cookies! Here one of the thank you notes.
I want to thank you and your Girl Scout Troop for all the delicious cookies that you provided and were sent to us here in the desert. As I'm sure you could guess, many of the people I am here with, including myself, are huge fans of Girl Scout cookies and look forward to buying them each year back home--that is why it was such a pleasant surprise to receive a whole box load of the cookies earlier this month!
Now I have good news and bad news. The good news is, my mom did a pretty good job of teaching me how to share, as did my waistline, so I didn't horde all the cookies to myself. The bad news is as soon as I opened the box, and word got out about the abundance of cookies that I had, I became quite popular on base. I must tell you that the cookies were all but demolished within a day or two! Unfortunately, there aren't many times where we find excitement out here, but I will say that seeing how excited people were when I was handing out the cookies definitely made the time out here go by a little faster, even if it was for just a day. Again, I just wanted to pass along our gratitude to you and your troop from all the service members deployed out here with me in the desert and hope that you all have had a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
1Lt. Richard H.
