MOUNTAIN MAGIC 2007

PLANNING MEETING MINUTES

March 23, 2006 - 7:00 – 9:00 PM

Welcome and Introductions – In attendance were Lianne Griffin, Marsha Sussman, Terry Otto, Shannon Glapion, Kathy Stephan, Kippy Shea, Marie Lott, Frances Parks, and Laurie Hackworth.

The planning committee reviewed the feedback forms and tallied the votes for Leader Weekend theme, mascot, date for 2007 Leader weekend, and 2007 theme. The committee is pleased to announce the winners:

Mountain Magic Weekend

A unicorn is our mascot, her name is Misty

Leader Weekend will be January 19-21, 2007

Theme for 2007 is "Fairy Tales – An Enchanted Weekend"

We also signed up to be committee chairs for the upcoming year. The updated committee roster is attached. We want to ask Kim Bowens if she is interested in doing unit checkout; we also want to ask Diana Snyder if she will help with artwork. Terry suggested that we include Jeanne Andres, the new program specialist for Metro 3. **UPDATE** Lianne has left messages for both Jeanne and Diana and asked them to be on our committee. She has also sent an email to Kim.

The committee also stuffed the envelopes for all the trainer evaluations. Lianne wrote a letter thanking each trainer and invited them to come back next year. The evaluations were mailed on 3/24/06.

The theme for next year is "Fairy Tales – an Enchanted Weekend" which we think is great to launch our new name. This should be great for costumes, decorations, and swaps, too! There are no limits to fairy tales – modern or classic. Remember that a fairy tale, or wonder tale, is a kind of folktale or fable. In these stories we meet witches and queens, giants and elves, princes, dragons, talking animals, ogres, princesses, and sometimes even fairies. Marvelous and magical things happen to characters in fairy tales. A boy may become a bird. A princess may sleep for a hundred years. A seal may become a girl. Objects too can be enchanted — mirrors talk, pumpkins become carriages, and a lamp may be home to a genie. One thing is for sure; people everywhere like stories in which truth prevails over deception, generosity is ultimately rewarded, hard work overcomes obstacles, and love, mercy and kindness are the greatest powers of all. Kind of like Girl Scouts, don’t you think?

Lianne fixed the bracelets for everyone in attendance. Cris and Karen need to bring their bracelets to the next meeting and Lianne will fix them, too.

The committee agreed to keep our committee meetings on the 4th Thursday of each month; our next meeting is April 27th at 7:00 PM EST at the VSC. Lianne will invite all the people who indicated an interest on being on the committee to our next meeting. The committee meeting was concluded at 9:20 PM.
