Awesome Crafts – Participants will have an opportunity to make a variety of cool crafts.  Craft supplies, Safety and Craft Resources are also covered in this class. Campfire Gourmet - Learn recipes and advanced techniques for creative outdoor cooking. Pre-planned menus will be used. Prerequisites: Fire Building and Outdoor Cooking or Platform Tent Camping. Creative Card Making - In this class you will learn to make two cards using unique technique. Deluxe Box Ovens - Learn the fundamentals of building and using a box oven. Make a deluxe box oven complete with window and rack to use with your troop.  This class is for any interested adult or leader who wants to learn about cook stoves and lanterns which operate on propane, butane and sterno fuels. Exploring Nature with your Troop – Go on a scavenger hunt; count some crawlies; identify grasses, flowers, trees and birds as you learn to use field guides; play a food chain card game; eat some weeds; and make a nature journal or poster. Fun Ways to Present Awards - In this class you will learn many creative ways of presenting the age level awards to your girls. By coming up with different ways of presentation you are showing them that you value their hard work, which in turn they will also value. Geocaching – Learn about Geocaching, the outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. Horseback Riding (Ring Lesson) - Build your horseback riding skills in the ring. This activity is a great choice for beginner riders. Quilting (Beginning) – Beginner Hand Quilting: Learn how to assemble and begin hand quilting techniques by using a preprinted panel that can be finished at home into a pillow or sampler for later display.  Note: if you don’t know how to thread a needle and knot it, or are a little rusty, you may be interested in taking the Sewing Basics Class that will be offered Fri. night. Sewing Basics - Sewing Basics—by Hand: Learn the basics on how to thread a needle, knot it, and begin hand sewing hiding the knots when possible. In addition, you can learn mending basics like how to sew on a patch, a button, or hem a garment. Fabric scraps (if you do not have any mending or other participants don’t have enough to share). Troop Camping Basics: Cabin Camping - First step for troops planning troop camping experiences. Teaches adults the steps in working with girls to plan and carry out an overnight experience using indoor facilities (lodges, cabins, etc.) with kitchens and indoor bathrooms at council camps as well as other approved camp facilities. Star Gazing - Offered Friday & Saturday night if skies are clear. Meet in the dining hall before going outside for a guided tour of the stars, planets & constellations of the winter sky. Instructor will have red cellophane to cover your flashlight before we go outside and will use a green laser to point out the winter constellations. Bring gloves, scarves, hats, warm coats & a small flashlight. Bring binoculars if you have them. If clear skies are forecast & you'd like to savor the stars, previous stargazers have recommended bringing a reclining lawn chair & blanket. ~30 Mins. or as long as folks want to stay.
