Learn the basics of target archery, or just practice what you know. After a safety orientation, our certified instructor will guide you through practice shooting. If you are checking this class out for troop camping, it is for grades 2+.
Fee must be pre-paid at time of class registration.

This activity lasts about one hour, allowing 15 minutes to get there and 15 minutes to get to your next activity. It will start promptly at the posted start time; latecomers are not always able to be added to class.

Introducing the new Space Science badges for older girls! We'll sample some of the activities and discuss resources for the Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador levels.

Instructor will bring Space Science badge booklets from the Badge & Sash for anyone who has requested them in advance (~$2.70, pay in class).

Camp Helper
[Multiple Sessions]

Camp helpers assist the Planning Committee by collecting class rosters and taking photos of classes in progress. You'll walk around camp and see what the classes are doing (this will help you pick which class you want to take next year!) You may also get to do some administrative tasks like filing or stuffing envelopes. Crochet 101 and 102

101 is an intro to crochet, to teach the basics of crochet and learn to make a simple bookmark which they can teach their girls and a dishcloth.
102 is advanced the participants need to know the basics in order to make a hat. They had to have taken 101 at least and be comfortable using the crochet hook.
Instruction sheets scissors, yarn needles to finish the projects. A crochet hook and skein of yarn to create the projects. If you have a favorite yarn, feel free to bring it; scissors; bag to hold your projects in. For 101 you will bring home a bookmark and dishcloth. For 102 you will bring home a simple hat. Are you an adventurer? Come and learn what is involved in a short day-hike and discuss the skills girls need to know in order to enjoy that experience. Skills like: dressing for the weather, staying found, and snacks and supplies needed. Plus learn some common fears and concerns people face when going outside, where to go, and what to see from experienced volunteers. No-sew blanket - make a blanket with new friends! Use it at camp or as a gift. If you can cut fabric and tie a knot, you can make these blankets. Hike - Before Lunch

Meet for a ~3 mile trail hike. We will walk around the lake on Hall's Hike - easy route, fairly flat, followed by lunch in the Dining Hall.

Hike - Sunrise

Horseback Trail Ride

Participants in this activity must have previous riding experience and be able to lead a horse, mount, dismount, and control the horse at the walk. This activity lasts about one hour. It will start promptly at the posted start time; latecomers are not able to be added to class. The group will spend approximately 30 minutes in the arena reviewing safety procedures, and 30 minutes on the trail.
Fee must be pre-paid at time of class registration.

Orienteering Fun

Before taking Girls into the woods on hikes or expeditions, it is wise to know how to use a compass, be able to read a map, and use that compass with a map. Why you ask? These are all skills everyone using a GPS device or cell phone with outdoor applications should know; as electronic devices do fail. Staying found and finding your way are key skills in navigation. Learn how to take these skills one step further as you explore topographical maps and orienteering principles.

We will start with braiding and baking Challah bread. While bread rises, we will learn American Mah Jongg (not the matching game). Both are traditional cultural Jewish women's activities. Silk Screening T-Shirts

Participants will use the instructor's equipment to silk screen a t-shirt or item of their choice with a logo featuring this year's theme. You may leave as soon as your item has been processed.

Ink color this year will be dark green.

This is a Saturday night activity after the social.
Instructor will provide ink, screen and paper to insert between shirt layers. Shirt or other item with at least a 14" x 14" flat surface. Item should be white or light colors. Dark shirts will not show ink well. Bring coat hanger for drying after. This activity involves permanent ink. It is suggested that item be 100% cotton and pre-washed if possible for best results. Please put you name on the item since you may have to leave it to dry. Stargazing, Pop-up

   Stargazing
Join us for a pop-up outdoor session (weather permitting) under the stars for a guided tour of the stars & constellations in the winter sky.

Check the marker board for times on Saturday night. No sign-up necessary - this is a drop-in activity

Instructor will bring a telescope or two, binoculars, and a green laser to point out the winter constellations Gloves, scarf, hat, warm coat.

Look for us on Saturday night just off the sidewalk between the flagpole and the parking lot. Session times will be posted on the marker board.

Stargazing Sampler    

   Stargazing
Join us on Friday evening for an indoors Stargazing Sampler! We'll have a brief introduction to "What's Up?" in the January night sky using maps & smart phone apps.

We will then pop outside for a guided tour of the winter constellations, weather permitting. (If skies are cloudy we will make a planisphere and share constellation and star stories instead.)

This is a Friday evening mini-class.

Instructor will bring a green laser to point out the winter constellations and other stargazing resources.

If skies are clear: bring gloves, scarf, hat, warm coat.

If skies are cloudy: bring a pair of scissors

Learn about making Girl Scout SWAPs! We will discuss etiquette and safety concerns, then make a variety of SWAPs appropriate for different ages and skill levels. Learn to bake tasty treats for dogs and cats. Great for a fund raiser or gifts for animal friends, shelters, and rescues. During this class, you will learn to use various types of pre-cut vinyl designs to make 3 projects. You will make a custom t-shirt (iron on vinyl), a decor item (using vinyl as a stencil), and an etched glass. NOTE: this is NOT a Cricut class, and you will not learn how to use a Cricut machine (as there are many different kinds of machines and each one operates differently). The vinyl designs will be pre-cut and you will learn how to "weed" the cut vinyl and use it on projects. This class does NOT require knowledge of Cricut machines or other electronic cutting machines. Look fine in the Emerald City in a fleece tophat of your own creation! Patterns will be provided and construction techniques will be taught. A variety of fleece fabrics will be provided, or bring your own. You may have time to decorate if you have quick hands constructing your hat.
